Cb Radio Destinations and Towns
Have you ever been talking on the cb radio, or better yet listening to the truckers talk on the Cb radio?   Have you heard them refer to a destination or a town that you have never heard of before?  Where in the world is the "Big A"?  10-code for cb radios is like a 2nd language, a code that only the Cb radio people and police, understand.  Maybe you've learned them all and pride yourself on the odd communitcation. Start your young children on Cb Radio Language.  Cb Radio lingo goes far beond the 10- code often refered to.  Your children will believe it to be a code. Cb Radio lingo is in a world of its own.  Don't be discouraged, there are hundreds to learn.  Cb radio lingo has been around for years. Here is an example of the continuing drama of cb radio language.
CB RADIO DESTINATIONS
  •   "Art Bell Town" – Pahrump, Nevada. Truckers at night usually listen to Art   Bell and/or George Noory, and call Art's hometown that.
  •      "Badger Bound" – Wisconsin Bound Highway Traffic.
  •      "Big A" – Atlanta, Georgia.
  •      "Bikini State" – Florida.
  •      "Bubble City" - Champaign, IL
  •     "Choo Choo Town" – Chattanooga.
  •      "Dirty Side" – New York and New Jersey.
  •      "Gay Bay" – San Francisco Bay area.
  •      "Music Town" – Nashville.
  •     "Shakeytown" – Los Angeles, so nicknamed because of the earthquakes that occur there.
  •      "Sin City" – Las Vegas, Nevada
Can you think of an more? Use these Cb Radio codes during your everyday conversations and amaze your friends and family.  We all well know, Cb Radios FOREVER

Basic Function of the Cb Radio Antenna
A citizens band ,or Cb radio antenna is a device designed to do two things: It captures radio-frequency signals that are then converted to electrical signals by the receiver, and it takes electrical signals from the transmitter and converts them into radio-frequency signals. This second function is where tuning comes into play, because an antenna has to radiate radio-frequency signals, something that's done best when the length of the antenna precisely matches the wavelength of the transmitted radio frequency.

You can determine the proper length of an antenna by using a formula:

Wavelength (in feet) = 984 / frequency (in megahertz)

INTRODUCTION

Cb radios are designed to be two-way devices. That is … they receive and they transmit. These are the two primary functions. Both functions share some common circuitry, but they also work independently of one another. We often hear from people that say, "I receive okay but nobody can hear what I’m saying" or "They hear me but I don’t hear them." Because we are an antenna manufacturer either of the two statements are often followed by "Do you think there is something wrong with my antenna setup?"

The Cb radio manufacturers most certainly field technical calls that question the Cb radio’s performance when indeed the problem is antenna related. Likewise, we field numerous calls from individuals that want to fix an "antenna problem" that really isn’t an antenna problem. In this article we will offer our angle on some of the more common problems we run into regarding Cb radio troubles and offer some ways for you to troubleshoot and/or fix the problems.

What is Cb Radio?

Cb stands for "Citizen's Band". It is a specific range (band) of radio frequencies from 26.965 megahertz to 27.405 megahertz at 10 hertz intervals that are reserved by the FCC for short-range communications by the general public. Also included in this range of frequencies are the ones used by radio control model cars and aircraft. Cb radios are two-way radios which transmit and receive on these frequencies. Cb radios are popular with truckers because they are used to communicate between each other on the highway Cb radios are used for traffic information, speed trap locations, and general conversation. Normally, Cb radios have an FCC-limited output power of 4 watts, giving them a range of only maybe 6-10 miles, but many Cb radio users modify their radios and antenna systems to give them much greater range, sometimes across the country. There is also a system available called SSB, or "single side band" which enables users to increase the range of the Cb radio. For a while back in the 1970s and early 80s, thanks to C.W. McCall and his hit "Convoy", everybody and their brother had a Cb radio in their car, van, on their motorcycle, in their garage, everywhere. Some cars even had them as dealer options. The cool thing is that unlike ham radios, you don't need a license for Cb radio so anyone can talk. It used to be the only way to communicate from vehicle to vehicle, and it was limited by short range. Now, cell phones have pretty much wiped out the personal use of Cb radio and truckers are the primary users of Cb radios. Hobbiests and users of off-road vehicles also use Cb radios to keep track of each other. Cb radios can also be used by campers, hickers, climbers and emergency systems like REACT. Anywhere that people want to stay in contact lends itself to Cb radio. It can also be a great hobby or a first step towards a Ham radio liscense.

Cb Radio Has General Rules

Citizens Band (CB Radio Service) is a private two-way voice communication service for use in personal and business activities of the general public. Its communicating range is from one to ten miles. License documents are neither needed nor issued and there are no age or citizenship requirements. You may operate CB radios within the territorial limits of the fifty United States, the District of Columbia, and the Caribbean and Pacific Insular areas ("U.S."). You may also operate your CB radio on or over any other area of the world, except within the territorial limits of areas where radio-communications are regulated by another agency of the U.S. or within the territorial limits of any foreign government. You may also be permitted to use your CB radio in Canada subject to the rules of Industry Canada. Travelers to the U.S. may operate CB radios within the U.S. as long the unit is FCC certificated. For structures, the highest point of your CB radios antenna must not be more than 20 feet above the highest point of the building or tree on which it is mounted, or 60 feet above the ground.
